Victoria - June 27, 2005 - Got any exciting plans for the summer? Rob Dyke does. He plans to swim around Vancouver Island, about 1,400 kilometres, to raise money for the Canadian Red Cross’ water safety programs. Number 41 Media, a Victoria-based web development firm, has launched an interactive site to help Rob and his team raise awareness and support for the swim. You can log on at www.islandaquathon.ca and follow the adventure.
The Island Aquathon site features daily journal updates from Rob and swim team members Ian Scanlan, Peter De Zwager, and Mike Boyd; interactive maps; information on the swim route and schedule; donation links; and a guestbook that lets you cheer Rob on.
As long as the weather cooperates, Rob will hit the water on Thursday, June 30 in Victoria.
“We’ll be there to send him off on his journey,” said Matthew Miller, Island Aquathon project manager at Number 41 Media. “Keep watching the Island Aquathon site for photos and journal entries.”
There are lots of ways to support Rob and his team. If you’d like to get involved in the swim, visit the Island Aquathon site at www.islandaquathon.ca/support
